LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A Louisville man was arrested and charged after police said he drove into a restaurant near the Highlands Saturday night while under the influence.

According to court documents, 29-year-old Alexis Calvillo is facing several charges including DUI after police said he drove into the side of Kiwami Ramen at 1700 Bardstown Road around 10:22 p.m., destroying the side of the building.

The car’s front end tore off as it smashed into the side of the building, making contact with four people sitting at a table, including a pregnant woman, Calvillo's citation said.

In a post Sunday on social media, Kiwami Ramen said all guests and team members are safe despite the vehicle crashing into the building during business hours.

At the scene, Louisville Fire and several witnesses told police they saw Calvillo driving the car, then get out and walk away from the scene.

When officers arrived on scene, they told Calvillo to stop, but he refused and struggled with them. He told several officers "I'm going to kill you" along with other threats, according to his citation.

While detaining Calvillo, officers noted "a strong odor of alcohol" coming from him and found a large beer bottle on the passenger side floorboard of the car. Officers also noted in his citation Calvillo had trouble walking and slurred speech.

In addition to DUI, Calvillo is charged with four counts of wanton endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident, criminal mischief, resisting arrest, terroristic threatening, no car insurance and no or expired car registration.

He made his first court appearance Monday where his bond was set at $7,500. He's also not allowed to operate any motor vehicle.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 10.

Kiwami Ramen is temporarily closed according to the social media post Sunday, and no reopening date has been announced. They are working to access the damage to the business.
