LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A 28-year-old man was arrested Sunday in connection to a shooting Friday night near Iroquois Park.

Louisville Metro Police said officers responded just before 9 p.m. Aug. 1 to the 5200 block of New Cut Road, near Kenwood Drive, on the report of a shooting.

According to court documents, officers found a man who'd been shot in his left leg. An LMPD detective interviewed the victim at UofL Hospital downtown, who told police "Carlos Garcia" shot him after they ran into each other at a restaurant, court documents say.

Police then identifiedĀ Carlos Garcia-Romero as a suspect, adding that he currently dates the victim's ex-wife, with whom the victim shares a child.

On Friday, Garcia-Romero was arrested and charged with second-degree assault. He admitted to the shooting, according to his arrest citation, but said the gun accidentally went off as he was pointing it at the victim to scare him. He added he later threw the gun in a nearby dumpster.

Garcia-Romero is expected in court Monday morning.
