LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Joshua Smith pleaded guilty in the Harvest Homecoming shooting that took a teenager's life and rocked New Albany.
Smith was originally charged with murder and attempted murder but his plea agreement is now sealed. Court paperwork says it'll stay that way until further notice.
Smith is one of the people charged in the shooting that took 18-year-old Bryce Gerlach's life and hurt two others during the popular fall festival in downtown New Albany.
Gerlach was shot inside the ride area. Police believe all three victims were innocent bystanders who weren't related to an argument between two groups of people that ultimately led to the shooting.
Documents show that Smith confessed to shooting a gun in the air. Police later found a gun at his house, and investigators believe a bullet there matched a casing found at the scene.
Darius Tuff and Shermichael Smith are expected to go on a trial March 24. Witnesses told police Shermichael Smith shot a gun in the direction of two victims and Tuff also fired a gun.
He's also accused of driving the Smiths, who are brothers, to the festival. Damarius Gardiner Person is also charged with murder in the shooting and Isaiah Page with attempted murder.
Sentencing for Joshua Smith is set for the morning of March 28.
