LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A Louisville man pleaded not guilty Thursday after police said he was involved in a deadly crash that killed an electric bike rider earlier this month.
Diego Garcia Orozco, 28, is charged with second-degree manslaughter, failure to render aid and several other charges in connection with the July 5 crash in the Okolona neighborhood.
Police said the crash happened on Preston Highway between Stinnett Lane and Grade Lane. Investigators said Garcia Orozco stopped for about 30 seconds after hitting the rider before driving away.
A second driver stopped to help the victim, who died at the scene.
According to police, officers later tracked down Garcia Orozco and interviewed him. Police said he admitted he left the scene and had a new windshield installed later that day. Investigators also said damage to his vehicle was consistent with the crash.
His arrest citation also alleges Garcia Orozco did not have a valid driver's license, insurance or vehicle registration.
During his arraignment, Garcia Orozco pleaded not guilty. A judge set his bond at $100,000.
The case remains under investigation.
