LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man charged with killing his 1-month-old son was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Thursday.
Anthony Trice pleaded guilty to manslaughter in an Alford plea. With an Alford plea, the defendant maintains their innocence, but pleads guilty.
Trice was charged with hitting his 1-month-old son in the head after losing a video game in 2019. The baby later died.
According to court documents, Trice became upset while losing at a video game he was playing on the night of May 3, 2019. That's when Louisville Metro Police investigators said Trice hit his son in the head with his fist, then picked him up to try to quiet him.
Police said Trice was on his way to the kitchen to make a bottle when he dropped the boy. After preparing the bottle, police said Trice took his son to a bedroom, propped him up with the bottle in his mouth, before going into the bathroom.
Trice called 911 for help after coming out of the bathroom and noticing the boy was in distress. The baby was taken to the hospital, and Trice was arrested and charged with criminal abuse early the next morning. A first degree murder charge was added, after the boy died.
Trice's case stretched out in the courts over five years due to questions about his mental competency.
