LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A 17-year-old boy was arrested in connection to a shooting last month that prompted a shelter-in-place at a nearby high school soccer game.

Around 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, Louisville Metro Police said officers arrived on Congress Street, not far from Central High School Stadium, to find a man in his 20s with a gunshot wound to the knee. He was taken to the hospital, and two juveniles running from the scene were detained by police but not initially arrested.

Inside the stadium, J. Graham Brown School was playing duPont Manual High School.

"... gunshots were fired at a nearby store, unrelated to our event, our schools or the game," Angela Parsons, principal at Brown, said in a letter to families, adding an immediate shelter-in-place out of an abundance of caution.

LMPD said Tuesday that a 17-year-old boy was arrested in connection to the shooting and charged with assault and five counts of wanton endangerment.

"JCPS Police responded quickly and professionally, safely evacuating the soccer field and ensuring the safety of all students, staff, and spectators," Michael Newman, principal at Manual, said in a letter to families. "We remained in communication with law enforcement throughout the situation, and once LMPD confirmed that the area was secure, attendees were allowed to safely leave."
