LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville police successfully shut down a planned street takeover in NuLu early Saturday morning.

According to LMPD spokesman Matthew Sanders, officers received a disorderly persons call at Clay and Market streets around 12:45 a.m. Sanders said the caller expressed concern over a potential street takeover.

A presence of approximately 250 individuals was confirmed, along with several motorcycles and vehicles near Corridor and Garage Bar, and a nearby parking lot by La Bodeguita de Mimi.

Sanders said extra police units were prepared in a staging area nearby, but officers chose to approach the scene calmly and encourage cooperation without escalating the situation.

LMPD officers worked alongside ABC officers and spoke with bar staff and members of the crowd, asking them to clear sidewalks, move illegally parked vehicles, and get rid of open alcohol containers.

All parties cooperated without issue, and no citations or arrests were made. The situation was resolved within 30 minutes, Sanders said.

As a precaution, Garage Bar decided to close early, citing worries about outside drinks being brought into the establishment.

Jaime Perez is the kitchen manager at Galaxie Bar, which is just down the street from Garage Bar.

"If it starts to get a little out of hand, what a lot of the other bars in the area, including ourselves, will do is we'll just start turning guests away," says Perez.

Perez also says street takeovers are now on their radar.

"It's one thing that we definitely have in mind but as to whether or not we're really concerned, all we can really do is just keep an eye on it and then just try to plan accordingly," says Perez.

LMPD officers remained on the scene to ensure the area stayed clear.

"The Louisville Metro Police Department commends the collaboration of community members, local businesses, and partner agencies in achieving a safe and orderly outcome," LMPD said in a statement.
