Man arrested after allegedly stabbing father to death in southwest Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A man was arrested Sunday morning and charged with murder following a standoff with police after allegedly stabbing his father to death in southwest Louisville.

Police were called to the 13900 block of Blakely Lane just after midnight on a report of a person down near the roadway, according to Sgt. Matt Sanders, a spokesperson for the Louisville Metro Police Department. That's south of Valley Station, near Jefferson Memorial Forest.

Once on scene, police found the victim with multiple stab wounds and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to an arrest citation, detectives learned that the victim told his brother that he was going to meet with his son because he needed to be calmed down. Police said the victim's son was identified as 36-year-old Christopher Dubey.

Court documents state detectives also learned that the victim had arrived to the 13900 block of Blakely Lane at 11:40 p.m., just 18 minutes before the stabbing was reported. According to police, the victim only stayed at the residence for a few minutes before leaving and it was the last time the victim was seen alive.

Sanders said LMPD's Homicide Unit took over the investigation and found the victim's vehicle in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 1700 block of Bonnyville Boulevard in the Pleasure Ridge Park neighborhood. The vehicle was running, police said, and had "large amounts of blood" inside.

Police then focused their investigation on an apartment with blood on the door, where Dubey had barricaded himself inside. According to court documents, the residence was the known address of Dubey's mother.

After "several hours of back and forth," LMPD's Swat Unit deployed a chemical agent and Dubey surrendered to police, Sanders said. Police claimed while Dubey was being detained he had blood on his hands.

The citation states a knife with the suspect's blood and clothing items with "a large amount of suspected blood" were found inside the apartment. Police said Dubey "made several utterances that indicated he was involved in a stabbing."

Dubey was arrested just after 6:30 a.m. and charged with murder-domestic violence.

According to court documents, an emergency protective order was filed against Dubey on May 25.

Dubey is expected to appear in court Monday, June 22.
