LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Louisville Metro Police are investigating after a man and a dog were found dead Thursday in Old Louisville.

Officers were called to the 500 block of West Ormsby Avenue, near South 6th Street, at 3:30 p.m. "on an investigation," according to LMPD Spokesperson Adam Sears.

Once on scene, police found a man inside a residence who was "obviously deceased."

Police arrested Charles Gerlach shortly after the investigation. According to his arrest citation, police were called after Gerlach jumped out of a fourth story apartment window trying to commit suicide.

Once inside the apartment, police said they found a man's body inside a closet stuffed behind a mattress and a dead dog in the bathroom sink.

Gerlach admitted to stabbing and killing the victim and the dog, the citation said.

He is charged with murder, torture of a dog or cat, abuse of a corpse, and tampering with physical evidence.
