LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police say a 30-year-old man beat his stepfather to death in Louisville's St. Denis neighborhood Monday afternoon.
According to court documents, Jalen Forrest was charged with murder Tuesday morning, just after 10 a.m.
Shortly before 4 p.m., officers were sent to an apartment in the 4500 block of Broadleaf Drive, near the intersection of Shanks Lane and Cane Run Road in Louisville's St. Denis neighborhood, on a report of a man being assaulted, according to an arrest report.
When officers arrived, they found Forrest alone in the apartment, with the victim, his stepfather, who was suffering from multiple injuries. The victim, who has not been publicly identified, was pronounced dead.
The person who called 911 to report the assault allegedly told detectives she'd been on the phone with the victim, when she heard the victim say, "Jalen back up off me," and "get off me, get off me!" She said the victim's cries became increasingly muffled, before the line went dead.
Police initially said the death was the result of a shooting. An autopsy was conducted on Tuesday, according to the arrest report. Court documents indicate the victim suffered from multiple injuries, "including fractured ribs, broken jaw and manual strangulation."Ā
The manner of death was ruled a homicide.Ā
Forrest was arrested on Monday on a fugitive warrant out of Indiana. He was booked into Louisville Metro Corrections. On Tuesday morning, after the results of the autopsy were obtained, he was charged with murder.
He's currently scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday morning.
