LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A 30-year-old man was charged with attempted murder and assault charges after police said he attacked another man with a cleaver knife in what investigators describe as a targeted assault.
According to a Louisville Metro Police citation, officers arrested Jeremiah Page on Monday following a violent attack along Preston Highway.
Police said the incident happened around 5:25 p.m. on in the 7300 block of Preston Highway. The victim told investigators he was walking on the sidewalk when Page approached him with a bladed weapon.
Investigators said Page struck the victim multiple times with a cleaver-style knife, causing serious injuries to his head and right shoulder. Witnesses at a nearby animal hospital saw the attack and rushed to help the victim, providing aid until emergency crews arrived.
Police said Page fled the scene but stayed in the area. Officers quickly located him nearby and took him into custody, recovering the weapon believed to have been used in the assault.
According to the citation, Page told officers he didn't know the victim but admitted to attacking him. Police said Page also made statements indicating he targeted the victim because he was trespassing on his land, that he owned all of Louisville and that he was a foreigner.
The victim was taken to UofL Hospital with serious injuries. Police said he later confirmed the details of the attack while being treated.
Page is charged with attempted murder and first-degree assault, and is being held at Metro Corrections.Â
He appeared in court for his arraignment Tuesday morning, where he pleaded not guilty and a judge set his bond at $750,000 cash.
The investigation remains ongoing.
