LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man that was shot by police on Friday night in Pleasure Ridge Park died on Sunday morning, according to Louisville Metro Police.

LMPD Col. Steve Healey said officers with the 3rd Division responded to the 4700 block of Crawford Avenue at 10:58 p.m. on a trouble run of an armed suspect. Upon arrival, officers were met by a suspect with a knife.

Healey said "officers gave repeated commands for the suspect to drop the knife that they observed in his hand," but the suspect refused and kept coming toward officers with the knife in his hands.

Healey said officers used less lethal methods to apprehend the suspect, but those methods failed, having "limited effect" on the suspect.

Three LMPD officers discharged their weapons, but Col. Healey said the suspect kept coming toward officers with "a large knife still remaining in his hands."

After the officers fired their weapons, they went to try and perform life-saving measures on the suspect, but the suspect kept them away with the knife still in his hands, Healey said.

Finally, officers were able to disarm the suspect and perform life-saving measures on him. Healey said the suspect was alert and conscious and was transported to UofL Hospital.

The man, who has not been identified, died on Sunday morning.

LMPD's Public Integrity Unit will be leading the investigation, and body camera footage will be released within 10 days, per LMPD policy.
