LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A man charged with fatally shooting a man in Louisville's Shelby Park neighborhood pleaded not guilty in court.

Police arrested Cody Hedrick, 21, of Louisville, hours after the Sunday night shooting.

An arrest citation said officers were alerted by ShotSpotter about a shooting just before midnight on Sunday.

When officers arrived they found a man with an apparent gunshot to the head in an alley off Logan Street near Chester Avenue. The victim, identified by the Jefferson County Coroner as 33-year-old Justin Wells, was taken to UofL Hospital in downtown Louisville where he died.

As Fourth Division officers started investigating, a neighbor approached and said his surveillance camera captured the incident.

According to court records, video from the security camera showed Hedrick arguing with and eventually shooting Wells. Police said Hedrick later returned to the scene to gather the shell casings.

The arrest citation said Hendrick gave a mirandized statement to detectives admitting to the shooting and of collecting the shell casings.

Hedrick was arraigned on Tuesday morning. The judge kept his bond at $1 million dollars and ordered him to have no firearms or contact with the family of the victim.

Hedrick is scheduled back in court on Sept. 11.
