LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A man is dead after being hit by a stolen vehicle that was fleeing from police in the city's Portland neighborhood.
Louisville Metro Police said an officer attempted to pull over a vehicle in the 3300 block of Pflanz Avenue around 6:20 p.m. Wednesday, according to LMPD Spokesperson Dwight Mitchell. That's near 33rd and Northwestern Parkway.
Mitchell said the driver of the car took off, and the officer turned on his lights and sirens.Â
While fleeing, the suspect hit another vehicle, who had the right-of-way, in the intersection of 34th and Bank Streets.
Both drivers were transported to UofL Hospital, Mitchell said. The driver of the vehicle hit by the suspect died at the hospital. The suspect who fled has injuries not thought to be life-threatening, Mitchell said.
Police later learned the suspect's vehicle was stolen out of Indianapolis. LMPD's Traffic Unit is investigating.Â
The suspect is facing several charges.
Police said the officer that attempted the traffic stop turned off his lights and sirens as soon as the driver took off, and that the officer came upon the crash at 34th and Bank.Â
