LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The man who was shot last week in the Walmart pharmacy drive-thru by a Louisville Metro Police officer was released from the hospital and booked into jail on five felony charges.
Randall Allen was shot Aug. 28, police said, as he tried to carjack a woman at gunpoint outside the Walmart on Outer Loop near New Cut Road. Around 12:15 p.m., LMPD Interim Chief Paul Humphrey said a Kentucky State Police trooper was in a vehicle pursuit that ended with a collision at the intersection outside the Walmart.
One man in the car — Jeremy Bozarth, 44, of Louisville — was arrested by the trooper. Allen, who Humphrey said was armed with two guns, ran toward the Walmart at that intersection. Humphrey said Allen was inside the Walmart when LMPD officers arrived on scene and located him, at which point he ran outside and jumped in the passenger seat of a car in the drive-thru at the pharmacy. Police made several verbal commands for Allen to get out of the car before opening fire, shooting the man multiple times.
A woman was in the driver's seat during the entire incident, Humphrey said. When asked if Allen fired at police before he was shot, Humphrey simply said it's still under investigation.
Allen was transported to UofL Hospital and booked Wednesday afternoon into Louisville Metro Corrections. He's charged with robbery, wanton endangerment, unlawful imprisonment, possession of methamphetamine and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. Bozarth is charged with reckless driving, speeding more than 26 mph, fleeing from police, wanton endangerment and other charges.Â
The LMPD Public Integrity Unit is taking over the case, and the officer who fired was placed on paid administrative reassignment, per department policy. Body camera video will be released within 10 business days, Humphrey said.
