LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police homicide detectives are investigating after a fatal shooting Monday in Louisville's Algonquin neighborhood.

It happened around 10:45 a.m. in the 1700 block of Patton Court, according to LMPD spokesman Dwight Mitchell. That's off West Hill and 13th streets.

At least a dozen LMPD officers were called to investigate along with the Crime Scene Unit. When they arrived on scene, Mitchell said officers described finding a woman's body outside the apartments.

The Jefferson County Coroner's Office identified the victim on Tuesday as 15-year-old Dovia Pernell.

"It's always a concern, especially in broad daylight," Mitchell said. "And before noon is always going to be a concern, especially when it appears to be another senseless death that's happened here."

Raymond Brooks, who runs the Park Hill Community Center across the street from the shooting scene, said a couple men who frequent the center said they know who shot the girl.

"I keep my ear to pretty much what's going on in this community," Brooks said. "... Once I found out it was a young lady that comes every once in a while, it kind of bothered me, especially with her being so young."

Mitchell said officers were canvassing the area to look for potential witnesses.

It happened around 10:45 a.m.

"I think always someone sees something," he said. "It's a matter of whether they have the courage to tell us what's going on."

Brooks said if some of his guys know who the shooter is, it won't take long for police to track the suspect down.

"I'm pretty sure they will," he said
