LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man was shot during a carjacking in Louisville's Russell neighborhood Monday evening.

Officers were called to a reported shooting in the 300 block of South 11th Street around 6:30 p.m., Louisville Metro Police Department Spokesperson Aaron Ellis said in a statement. That's not far from West Jefferson Street and Baxter Park.

Once on scene, the victim told police he was in the area in his vehicle, which was stopped, when he was approached by a person who demanded the vehicle and fired a shot.

The victim complied and the suspect took the vehicle. 

Police said the victim gave officers a description of the vehicle, which was located not far from the scene. A description of the suspect was not provided.

LMPD's Robbery Unit is handling the investigation.
