LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A southern Indiana man was arrested early Thursday morning after allegedly stealing a police car in a hotel parking lot and leading officers on a high-speed chase.
In a news release, Indiana State Police said Roger Stamper, 44, of Austin is facing multiple charges.
ISP said the incident began around 1:30 a.m. when the Scottsburg City Police Department was investigating a call at the I-65 Studio Suites Hotel.
ISP said the man gained entry to a marked Scottsburg City Police car in the parking lot then drove away. Officers then found the stolen car traveling southbound on Interstate 65 a few miles away south of the city.
Officers tried to stop the vehicle but the driver continued to drive hitting speeds of more than 100 miles per hour.
Police deployed stop stick tire deflation devices in Clark County, but the driver still continued going around 140 MPH. But after continued efforts to stop him, the driver soon lost control and hit a concrete median barrier near Eastern Boulevard.
Stamper was tasered by police after he refused to follow commands. He was arrested and taken to the Scott County Jail.
He faces multiple charges including resisting law enforcement, auto theft, unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle, reckless driving, criminal recklessness and driving on a suspended license.
