LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Virginia woman was arrested in connection with a 1991 cold case death investigation in Madison County, Kentucky.

According to Kentucky State Police, 56-year-old Jennifer Cummins of Fairfax, Virginia, was arrested Tuesday.

This comes after an investigation into the death of a female infant that was found by a sanitation worker at the former Richmond Landfill in Madison County in 1991.

The infant was born alive and healthy before being placed in a dumpster on the campus of Eastern Kentucky University.

The case was re-examined in recent years using advancements in forensic science and investigative technology.

The new leads identified Cummins as a person of interest.

Cummins has been charged with murder and was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and will be extradited to Kentucky.
