LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A Louisville couple said their car was hit by a city snowplow in the middle of the night — and the driver never stopped.

“This car was damaged by a plow that was working for the city of Louisville,” said Darci Tooley. “It hit this car in the middle of the night, and the driver didn’t stop.”

At the time, Darci Tooley was living in the Highlands.

“The snowplow hit the back left of my wife’s car,” Nate Tooley said. “We only know this because her roommate — who’s a nurse — got home from work at 2 a.m., saw the damage, and saw the snowplow driving down the street.”

The couple married just a few months after the crash, but are still living with the memory — and the photos — of the damage done that January night in 2025.

“I didn’t find the damage until the next day because I was shoveling her car and her roommate’s car out of the snow,” Nate Tooley said. “And I uncovered the damage and was like, I did not do that with an aluminum shovel.”

According to city records, 94 damage claims were filed last year involving Louisville Metro snowplows — and 85 of them came from a single storm. By WDRB’s count, the city paid out just over $28,000 in total.

The Tooleys said their claim was approved for $2,600, but only because Darci’s roommate saw the plow and noted the time.

“In the middle of the night, she knew the hour that it happened,” Nate said. “That was the only reason we were able to get a claim, because when we called, they wanted to know the exact time so they could check the plow routes.”

The couple said the driver didn’t stop and didn’t leave a note. They believe that without the roommate’s observation, the claim might have been denied.

Louisville Metro said if your car is hit by a plow, you should file a report through Metro 311.

The Tooleys urge others to take plenty of pictures and record the time if it happens to you.
