LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Duke Energy is paying more to those who turn in old refrigerators.
Customers who recycle the outdated appliances will now receive $50 instead of $30.
Through the recycling program, customers can have inefficient refrigerators and freezers picked up at their home at no cost. Another incentive: customers can save as much as $150 a year through lower household energy usage.
The old appliances are taken to a facility that removes harmful materials and reclaims 95 percent of the materials to reuse in manufacturing new products.
