Bethlehem girls soccer state title road sign

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Bethlehem High School girls soccer team was honored on Monday after winning the school's first state championship last fall.

The Banshees upset Sacred Heart, 4-3, after wins over Boyle County, Henderson County and Bullitt East in the KHSAA state tournament. Bethlehem's team was the second Class A team to win the girls state championship. 

On Monday, Nelson County Judge Executive Tim Hutchins unveiled a State Championship Highway Sign Dedication with the team. The road sign reads "Home of the Bethlehem Banshees 2023 KHSAA Girls Soccer State Champions."

In the team's state championship winning season, the Banshees went 22-4-2. They were the first team from the 5th Region to win a KHSAA Soccer state title. 

The Banshees will graduate six seniors this spring, including All-State players Carlie Thurmond and Ashlyn Miles. The team's coach, Scott Deopere, was named Private School Coach of the Year by the Kentucky High School Soccer Coaches Association.
