LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Bleacher railing that collapsed during a soccer game at a Louisville high school has been repaired.

Jefferson County Public Schools said it's waiting on the railing at Waggener High School to be reinspected.

At least six people were hurt when the railing collapsed during a regional soccer semifinal game between St. Xavier and Trinity last Thursday, Oct. 16. Students and players were among those hurt, JCPS said.

The day after the incident, St. Xavier said in a statement that several of its students were hurt in the collapse as they celebrated their victory near the student section.

Renovations at Waggener's stadium were just finished last month, including the new bleachers. The upgrades were part of a multimillion-dollar project at several JCPS schools, announced by the district back in 2023.

The district said the bleachers were inspected in September by Louisville Metro Codes and Regulations, and were found to be in compliance.

In a statement the day after the incident, the department said the railings were "constructed to meet the 200-pound lateral load standard mandated by the Kentucky Building Code, and all plans received were stamped by a licensed engineer and approved by our office."

JCPS said crews also checked out all of the newly-installed bleachers, and said the district's athletic directors also "regularly inspect" facilities, including bleachers.
