LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A new program focused on improving the financial literacy for 13- to 17-year-old boys will start next month in Louisville.
Community Connections Group held a ribbon cutting on Saturday for its free program that will go over how to set up checking and saving accounts, understanding documents, preparing for college, managing money and more.
"We want to teach them about investing, home ownership, saving money, managing a bank account, savings account, insurance, taxes, things that we think are very crucial to young men and their future," said James Linton, president of Community Connections Group. "I believe if young people are taught how to save money, they'll grow up and be responsible."
The first session, which will teach 30 children, filled up in the first day. Linton said there are 146 boys on the wait list.
"It's very needed," Linton said. "We have to have positive ways to give back to our young people."
The first sessions will launch in January.
Community Connections Group has made a commitment to run the program for three years.
