JCTC science labs open 1-21-26

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Officials cut the ribbon on state-of-the-art science labs at Jefferson Community and Technical College in downtown Louisville on Wednesday.

The labs will host all science instruction on campus.

The opening of the facility on South First Street marks a milestone in the multi-year $90 million Jefferson Rising project.

Before this, JCTC had 40-year-old science labs that were outdated and had some safety issues.

"This building has a feeling of success. Just its name alone, the Center for Science and Discovery is enough to help a student feel welcomed as opposed to feeling like they're having to dredge through some course that they weren't sure they wanted to take to begin with," JCTC President Ty Handy said.

About half of the JCTC student body will take core classes at the STEM facility.
