LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A junior at Eastern High School in Louisville was selected for a prestigious medical conference this summer.
Leilana Stephenson, a participant in the Future Healers Teen Medical Mentorship program, was selected to attend the Congress of Future Medical Leaders in Boston from June 25-27. The national conference is hosted by the National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientists. It brings top high school students from around the country who have aspiring medical careers.
Stephenson joined the Future Healers Teen Mentorship program in Sept. 2024. According to a news release, she has demonstrated leadership and compassion as a mentee and dedicated volunteer for the Future Healers program.
"We are incredibly proud of Leilana," Christopher 2X, Executive Director of 2X Game Changers, said in a news release. "When she contacted us and our partners about this opportunity, we didn’t hesitate to sponsor her. Supporting young leaders like Leilana is exactly why the Future Healers program exists.”
Christopher 2X's Game Changers has devoted resources to supporting children impacted by gun violence with the Future Healers program, which is a partnership between the Game Changers, UofL Hospital's Trauma Institute and students at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. The goal of the program is to help Louisville children who have been impacted by violence in their neighborhoods to build a better future. The program is for children ages 4 to 13 years old.
