LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Fern Creek High School students went through a training session Thursday as part of the school's fire science program.
Placed in a smoky room for a search and rescue mission, the class moved from the classroom to give students hands-on training at the Jefferson County regional fire training academy.
They learned basic training to get them ready for a job as a firefighter when they graduate.
"The Louisville Fire Academy and the Fern Creek Fire Academy is fundamentals," instructor Mark Lamaster said. "It's basic training, so we're going to give them a chance to get their hands on ladders, get their hands on hoses and nozzles, forcible entry tools so that they're more comfortable starting that career versus starting from scratch."
