LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The superintendent for a southern Indiana school district facing a financial crisis announced his retirement Tuesday.
Dr. Marc Slaton will leave his post as superintendent of the Scott County School District 2, effective this Friday, Jan. 31.
The district is facing a long road to recovery from a $4 million deficit, and, in December, Slaton said the district had only managed to cut that number in half.
Pre-k classes have been drastically reduced, and a spending freeze is in place.
Indiana's State Board of Accounts is scheduled to audit the district this spring.
Dr. Slaton read a statement to the school board, as he announced his retirement. Here is a copy of that statement:
