LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Teachers from across the country traveled to Kentucky this week to learn from the state's largest school district.
Educators from 10 school districts from as far as Hawaii and Connecticut visited Waggener High School Tuesday morning to learn more about Jefferson County Public Schools' Academies of Louisville programs.
The academy programs at Waggener include health science, IT and law. Their programs have been recognized as some of the best by the National Career Academy Coalition, which arranged the visit.
Tuesday, educators learned about Waggener's setup and how it's having an impact on learning.
"They need to be passionate about what they're learning," said Kim Morales, executive administrator for Academies of Louisville. "In order for us to keep their attention away from social media and all the things that, you know, can grab their attention today that you know kids in the past just didn't have."
About two-thirds of all JCPS high school students are enrolled in various Academies of Louisville programs.
