LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A falling tree branch pierced the windshield of a Jefferson County Public School bus as students were headed home Monday.

The Jeffersontown Police Department confirmed the incident happened on Watterson Trail near Boones Grove Way.

JCPS spokesperson Mark Hebert said the bus was taking students home from Cochran Elementary School when a large tree branch fell from a dead tree. The limb pierced the windshield of bus No. 1764.

Hebert said of the nine or 10 students on board, five or six suffered cuts and scrapes and half of those had glass in their hair. The bus driver had cuts to the face and glass in the hair but wasn't seriously injured.

EMS came to the scene and treated the minor injuries, but no one was transported to the hospital.

The bus was towed from the scene about 4 p.m.
