LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A family was displaced after a house fire early Thursday morning in Hillview.
The Zoneton Fire Protection District responded to the home on Christman Lane, off Zoneton Road and Old Preston Highway North, just after midnight.Â
Two people in the home woke up to the smoke alarm and were able to exit the home, fire officials said. Once outside, they found a fire on their deck that was spreading to the interior of the home.
Crews responding to the scene found the home fully engulfed in flames and called a "second alarm," which means more crews were brought in. Crews began fighting the fire from inside the home but were forced to exit when the flames grew more intense.Â
Fire officials said it took crews more than two hours to get control of the fire, and didn't clear the scene until 5:30 a.m.Â
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time as officials continue investigating. One of the family members was checked by EMS for smoke inhalation. One firefighter was also taken to a local medical facility to be evaluated for injuries, but has since been released and returned to duty.
The Red Cross was called in to assist the family.
Crews from Shepherdsville, Okolona, Fern Creek, Mt. Washington and Nichols also responded to the fire to provide assistance.
