LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Nine people from three units were displaced after a fire ripped through an apartment complex in Lyndon Thursday afternoon.
Crews from Anchorage Middletown Fire and St. Matthews Fire Department responded about 2:17 p.m. Thursday to the 10000 block of Whipps Mill Road on a report of a fire, Anchorage Middletown Fire spokesperson Salvador Melendez said in a statement.
When firefighters arrived on scene, they found a two-story apartment building with fire coming from the first-floor window. Melendez said crews were able to quickly put out the fire, which was contained to the apartment it started in. Two adjacent units suffered smoke damage.
Melendez said no one was injured, but firefighters did help one person from a second-floor bedroom in an adjacent apartment. Nine people from three apartments were displaced, and the American Red Cross is helping them.Â
Melendez said it took 30 firefighters 20 minutes to gain control of the fire that was caused by items placed too close to a stove while cooking.
