LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A free food pantry was offered in Louisville's west end on Saturday.
The giveaway was held at the District 1 Satellite office on Dumensil Street in the Parkland neighborhood. Louisville Metro Councilmember Tammy Hawkins (D-1) hosted the event thanks to a donation from local nonprofit Shirley's Way.
The goal is to remove the barrier for those who don't have as much access to food.
"It's already bad enough because there's not enough healthy foods, there are not enough grocery stores in the area so we have to do things like this so when people can't get those locations, at least we have things like this that will be able to help them," Hawkins said.
Shirley's Way is a nonprofit dedicated to supporting cancer patients, children's programs, houseless initiatives and more.
