LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A grand opening party was held Friday for Louisville's first outdoor roller-skating court.

The court is located at Lannan Park in the city's Portland neighborhood.

The $117,000 investment combined two underutilized tennis courts at the park into a colorful spot for local skaters. Many skaters have wanted the space not only to skate, but to connect and host community events.

Friday's "Rollin' on the River" party featured a live DJ, food trucks and skating.

"Roller-skating is more than just lacing up your boots and going around in a million circles," said Laneisha Beasley, with Louisville Parks and Recreation. "It's about physical, mental wellbeing and self expression."

City officials said feedback from the community helped them decide to turn the space into an outdoor roller-skating court.
