LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Several lakes in Indiana and Kentucky are dealing with high water levels this season, one of those is Nolin River Lake.

As people head to the lake for Memorial Day weekend, several boat ramps and campgrounds are closed. For one local restaurant, they've had to face financial hardships.

"Our revenue is probably (a third) of what it would be this time of year," Laura Wessell, Buoy's at the Lodge owner, said.

Memorial Day weekend is usually the busiest time of the year for Buoy's, but right now it's calm.

"Most of our boat docks are unusable. A lot of them are going to be redone," said Wessell. "They ended up in the trees or tangles up so none of us can get our boats in to even enjoy the water."

The lake's water level is currently 16.5 feet above its normal water level during the summer. Not only is this causing issues for local businesses, it's also a safety hazard.

"We want people to plan ahead. We want them to know the lake is high. There could be debris floating in the water. There are structures and trees that are under water surface where they may not have been before," Deryck Rodgers, manager of the Corps of Engineers at Nolin River Lake, said.

For Wessell, she knows the holiday weekend isn't going to be as busy as usual, but they're looking forward to the rest of the season.

"We live for three holidays, Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day," she said. "That's basically our season, so it's just trying to get by and trying to do more creative things."
