LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A second detainee has died at an immigration detention facility in Indiana, prompting a new investigation.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said a 55-year-old man from Vietnam was found unresponsive in his cell at the Miami Correctional Facility and later pronounced dead. His cause of death has not yet been determined.
According to a report from FOX59, the man had been living in the United States for decades after entering the country through a visa program for Amerasian children. An immigration judge ordered his removal in 2005.
Officials said the man also had a lengthy criminal history, though details about the circumstances leading up to his death remain unclear.
This marks the second death at the facility in recent months. In February, a 59-year-old man from Cambodia died while in custody. That death was attributed to natural causes.
ICE said it has notified federal oversight agencies and launched an investigation into the latest incident.
