LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- West Louisville's elite sports facility is about to get artsy.
The Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center is celebrating the launch of its first fine art show and sale.
Artists and Afros will showcase African American art, culture and heritage. The show includes paintings, sculptures, and mixed-media pieces that celebrate the Black community.
"We are going to bask in the art of this community and that's what I'm so excited about," said Sadiqa Reynolds, CEO of the Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center.Â
Organizers say it will give artists a platform to showcase their work.
"Art is a $60 billion dollar industry and Black artists only get 2% of that," Shauntrice Martin, founder of Okike, said. "And here in Louisville, only 3% of businesses are Black-owned, so there's a really big gap and so this inaugural event is an opportunity to change that."
Artists and Afros will run the weekend of Oct. 5-6 at the center, located at 3029 West Muhammad Ali Boulevard.
