LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Five duck hunters were rescued Saturday in Indiana after their boat became trapped in ice on the White River during dangerously cold conditions.
Temperatures were near 12 degrees, and large portions of the river were nearly frozen from bank to bank, making travel extremely hazardous.
Indiana conservation officers launched an airboat to reach the hunters, safely bringing them back to shore. No injuries were reported.
The rescue involved several agencies, including the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department, Dubois County EMS, Haysville Fire Department, and Spencer County’s Luce Township Fire Department.
Officials said the incident underscores the risks of being on waterways during extreme winter weather, and urge hunters and boaters to exercise caution and be prepared for emergencies.
