LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Indiana's governor has released a report on his administration's efforts to remove diversity, equity and inclusion programs from state government.

Republican Gov. Mike Braun signed an executive order in January to replace DEI programs with MEI programs, which stands for merit, excellence and innovation.

According to the report, there were more than 350 examples of DEI initiatives in state government programs. Seventy cases of DEI training for state employees have been eliminated. The report also said 34 grants conditioned on DEI initiatives are now open to all Hoosiers.

A new state law that went into effect July 1 also prevents public schools from using state money for DEI programs.

Braun said the state replaced political ideologies with a level playing field for all Hoosiers, but opponents said this sets the state further behind.
