LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Drivers along Interstate 64 in Floyd County will soon see crews preparing for one of the area’s largest highway upgrades.

Pre-construction work is scheduled to begin Feb. 2 and continue through late March, focusing on vegetation management along the corridor. Motorists should expect intermittent lane and shoulder closures during this time.

Major construction is expected to start this summer, with substantial completion anticipated by the end of 2029.

The Improve 64 project aims to ease traffic, increase safety, and streamline travel. Planned upgrades include added travel lanes, interchange improvements, and bridge and culvert rehabilitation.

Officials said the work will make commutes smoother and safer for drivers in Floyd County.
