LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- AÂ sinkhole on a Jeffersontown road has turned into a major roadblock for nearby businesses.
For months, it's forced drivers to detour. And Fred White, who owns a furniture shop off Plantside Drive, said the delay is costing him more than just time.
"I really didn't see a whole lot of progress after two months," White said Thursday. "... It's really hurting."
Just down the road from White's shop, heavy rain in October caused the road to cave in in a matter of minutes. The intense flooding washed out the soil beneath the pavement and exposed a water pipe.
Drivers in the area can take detours, but White said the decrease in overall traffic has really tanked his profits.
"Between Christmas and New Year's, I usually get slammed and I plan for that," White said. "Didn't get slammed this year."

At first, Jeffersontown Public Works said it would take two months to fix the damage, with crews working around the clock to get things back on track. Jimmy Franconia, director of public works in Jeffersontown, said crews have worked "diligently," even through weekends.
But three months later, there's still a lot of work left to do including the reinstallation of a gas line and application of fresh pavement.
"We just had a high expectation of getting (done) quicker," Franconia said. "The holidays hit."
There were several bumps in the road that delayed this reopening.
"We had some delays due to weather, and, working in a blue line stream, the volume of water slowed some things down," Franconia said.
But officials believe it will be good as new by February after LG&E fixes the gas line.
"We hope that it's a little sooner, but, in construction, you never know what obstacles they will run into," Franconia said.
White would welcome the return to normal, but he's pessimistic.
"I'll believe it when I see it," he said Thursday.
