Judge refuses supervised release for Trinity HS teacher held on child porn, exploitation charges

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A federal court judge says a former Trinity High School teacher and football coach is too dangerous to be let out on bond and should remain detained, according to court documents.

In the documents, Judge Dave Whalin denied Patrick Newman's request for supervised release because his "past conduct... raises serious concerns regarding the seriousness of the danger his release would present."

The order states it is not possible to guarantee a ban on computers and Internet use by Newman, citing the ubiquity of smaller internet connected devices.

"There are no conditions that [the court] could set that would reasonably abate that danger," the order states regarding Newman's release.

Patrick Newman, 33, is charged with engaging in unlawful online communications with a 13-year-old boy. He was arrested charged June 2.

Authorities say the two used social media apps VINE and KIK to communicate, that Newman, "used a means or facility of interstate commerce to knowingly persuade, induce, entice or coerce" the boy, "to engage in sexual activity for which a person can be charged with a criminal offense."

In addition, Newman is charged with possession of child pornography.

No trial date has been set.
