LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Kentucky woman who rose to national prominence in recent years as an advocate for abortion rights has been named one of Glamour Magazine's co-Women of the Year.

Hadley Duvall's story of surviving rape and incest became a huge story in Kentucky in the aftermath of Roe v. Wade's repeal.

The Owensboro native first told her story publicly last fall in a campaign ad for Gov. Andy Beshear, discussing the consequences of abortion restrictions, particularly those without exceptions for rape or incest.

In the ad, Duvall spoke of how she was raped by her stepfather at age 12, became pregnant and miscarried. Her stepfather was convicted of rape and is in prison. Duvall called out the anti-abortion Republican candidate — then-Attorney General Daniel Cameron — by name in the ad and said that “anyone who believes there should be no exceptions for rape and incest could never understand what it’s like to stand in my shoes.”

Beshear won reelection, and Democrats have said Duvall's ad was a strong motivator, particularly for rural, male voters who had previously voted for Trump for president.

Duvall recently spoke out about abortion restrictions at the Democratic National Convention back in August. She's also campaigned alongside first lady Jill Biden.

She's being recognized alongside Kaitlyn Joshua, an abortion rights advocate from Louisiana who also spoke at the DNC.
