LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The Ohio River Greenway gives the best views of the Louisville skyline, and the project finally wrapped up Friday.
The seven-and-a-half mile Ohio River Greenway is now open to walkers and bikers who can take a scenic route through Jeffersonville before choosing to cross through New Albany, Clarksville and Louisville.
Chloe Adcock might have the best view from Upland Brewing Co.'s deck. She's been working at the restaurant for two years.
"It's gorgeous out here especially at nighttime," Adcock said. "We get the perfect view of the sunset."
The newly-opened Ohio River Greenway trail runs right along the Ohio River. Walkers and bikers are already hitting the pavement, borrowing Adcock's everyday view.
"It's perfect," Adcock said. "It adds more business for Upland, and it's perfect for walkers, bikers. It just makes it better."
There's better access to the river through this path, connecting Jeffersonville to Louisville right at the base of the Big Four Bridge and running through Clarksville and New Albany.
It's a route that even Jeffersonville Mayor Mike Moore plans to frequently use.
"We've seen all communities become much more outdoors," Moore said. "This is what helps grow businesses, this is what invites families to move here when you can offer a project like this along the backdrop of the Ohio River everything is advanced by it."
Moore said the quarter-of-a-mile sector of the trail that crosses through Jeffersonville cost more than $4 million, funded by the state, Department of Natural Resources and new Indiana businesses.
"This is something I think everybody can celebrate whether you live in Jeffersonville or not," Moore said.
Turns out, the trail systems in the area are already attracting out-of-town visitors.
Terry and April Silver traveled from Georgia to Kentuckiana just to bike the trails.
"We just love being outside seeing the nature," Terry Silver said. "I wish we had something like this down in the Atlanta area. We don't have as many. The bike trails up here are great."
