LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Excitement continues to build along with the growing Powerball jackpot, which stood at a staggering $1.8 billion Friday afternoon. 

The price for a single Powerball ticket is $2, and players can add a Power Play multiplier for another $1. On Friday, the Kentucky Lottery gave away $2 Powerball coupons to the first 500 players in line at the Publix in east Louisville.

The current jackpot is now the second largest in Powerball history, and Kentucky Lottery officials believe it will continue to grow ahead of Saturday night's drawing. The largest jackpot in the game's history was $2.04 billion in November 2022.

Saturday's drawing will be the 42nd since the Powerball jackpot was last won on May 31, 2025, in California, according to the Powerball website. 

The winner of the jackpot has the option of receiving a lump sum payment of $826.4 million, or a 30-year annuity. If the winner selects the annuity, they will receive one immediate payment followed by 29 annual payments that increase by 5% each year. 

When Kentucky residents buy a Powerball or scratch-off ticket, part of the money helps fund higher education and student opportunities across the state.

The overall odds of winning a prize are 1 in 24.9. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million.
