LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville couple won $50,000 on a Kentucky Powerball ticket purchased on Bardstown Road near the Highlands.

The Kentucky Lottery said Friday that the couple, who asked to remain anonymous, matched all four white ball winning numbers on a ticket they purchased Aug. 31 after having brunch with some friends. On Labor Day, the woman checked the ticket and initially thought she had won just $100.

"It was wonderful," she told lottery officials. "A hundred dollars. I was happy with that."

Later that night, she looked at it again before cashing it.

"I guess I was just crazy when I first looked at it because I realized I forgot to look at the Powerball number," she said.

Her husband got home from an event, and she finally got a chance to tell him about their big win.

"So I wanted to talk to her about my event, but she said she had something else she had to talk to me about," he told lottery officials. "She handed me the ticket and asked me to double check it. She wasn't telling me anything; she doesn't say a word. I ask her if something was wrong and she goes (he gives the two thumbs up jester that his wife gave to him)," he said. "It was $50,000. I was like great. I love it. I love my job and what I am doing so it’s not quit-work money but it’s redo-the-house money."

The couple drove to Kentucky Lottery headquarters in Louisville Sept. 4 and walked away with $36,000 after taxes. The Kroger on Bardstown Road will receive $500 for selling the winning ticket.
