LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky Secretary of State Michael Adams has launched a new initiative to combat human trafficking in the commonwealth.
Thursday, Adams announced the launch of Kentucky Businesses Against Trafficking.
The new program provides training materials and videos to participating businesses, giving employees the tools they need to help spot and report human trafficking.
"Human trafficking is a form of modern slavery, and we must do all we can to put an end to it in Kentucky," Adams said in a Thursday news release. "As Kentucky's Chief Business Official, I am happy to partner with our business community to raise awareness of how to spot and report trafficking."
The Secretary of State's Office will coordinate free trainings through partnerships with the Refuge for Women and People Against Trafficking Humans Coalition of Kentucky.
The U.S. Department of State estimates there are 27.6 million victims of trafficking worldwide, Adams' office said. Since 2007, The National Human Trafficking Reporting Hotline in Kentucky has identified 2,499 individual victims.
