LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Part of the Sherman Minton Bridge is scheduled to close Friday night.

The lanes on the bottom deck of the bridge that carry traffic from New Albany to Louisville will close at 10 p.m. It's scheduled to reopen around 2 p.m. Saturday.

The closure is to allow crews to remove the painting containment platform that is above the lanes.

Drivers can take Interstates 265 and 65 to get around the closure. Traffic that bypasses I-265 will not be able to cross the Sherman Minton bridge and will have to get off at the New Albany exit.

According to officials with the Sherman Minton Renewal Project, Friday's closure will be the last shutdown before the years long project to rehabilitate the 61-year-old bridge is scheduled to conclude by mid-November.

The project team expects major work and all lanes of the bridge to be open by mid-November.
