LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky households can now apply for Low-Income Home Energy Assistance for heating assistance.

Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis through Dec. 15, or until the funds have been expended, according to a news release Monday. The one-time benefit ranges from $34 to $274 depending on housing category, fuel type used for heating and income level. Benefits can be used for home heating costs for electric, natural gas, propane, coal, wood or fuel oil.

To qualify, households must meet eligibility requirements including income eligibility of up to and including 150% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. Louisville residents apply through the Louisville metro Office of Resilience and Community Services.

Appointments are required in advance to apply. There is a toll-free automated appointment system available 24 hours a day to schedule an in-person appointment at one of seven locations.
