LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man shot by Louisville police early Monday morning has died.

According to Assistant Chief Emily McKinley, the officers were called at about 2 a.m. to Ridgecrest Road near Rosette Boulevard on a report of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found a woman who had been shot. Before officers had a chance to help her, McKinley said a man carrying a gun approached them. The officers told him to stop, but he reportedly continued to come toward them and pointed the weapon.

One of the officers shot the man. Both the man and woman were taken to UofL Health Hospital. LMPD later said the man died at the hospital. The woman was last reported in critical condition.

McKinley said the Public Integrity Unit will investigate, and there is body camera video of the incident, which will be released within ten days.

McKinley said the encounter is an example of the daily dangers Louisville police officers face and added that the department is grateful no officers or bystanders were injured.
